Today we had the option to sleep in—yes! After breakfast, I
headed out on the truck to feed the lions. All the vols (volunteers) hopped in
the back of the flat bed truck, and sat down next to two dead cows. Great way
to start your morning… We drove to the lion enclosures to chop up the cows and
feed it to the lions. While we were in the enclosures, the lions were in a smaller
waiting area. They made quite a fuss! When they were finally let out into the
enclosure, they rushed towards the newly chopped meat. Part of how researchers
test a pride’s social structure is to see how the lions react to the food. The
male who protects the food is the dominant one in the pride. After we ran out
of meat, we went to the cold room where other meat was stored and loaded up the
truck again. We repeated this process for about 3 hours. Below are a few

After lunch, there was a polocrosse game but by the time we
got back from meat prep and lion feeding, I was too tired to go to that. So, I
slept a bit and edited photos. We had the rest of the evening off, which was a
nice change from the usual routine. Tomorrow, I’ll be heading to the Great
Zimbabwe ruins for the day along with some other vols, as it is our day off.
The Internet and electricity have been really spotty today
